The meeting in Geneva wrapped up just after 20:15, with officials expressing hope for a renewed “window” of optimism regarding a resolution in the Middle East, particularly in relation to a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
As reported by the BBC, European ministers communicated a definitive message to Iran: it must agree to the proposal for zero uranium enrichment.
Iran has consistently rejected this proposal, viewing it as a violation of its rights to a peaceful nuclear program.
Europe’s Four-Point Proposal to Iran
French President Emmanuel Macron presented the European initiative to Iran, which consists of four main pillars:
- Reestablishment of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), aimed at gradually achieving zero uranium enrichment.
- International supervision of Iran’s ballistic missile program, which has long raised regional security concerns.
- Reducing Iranian financial support to armed paramilitary groups operating in Lebanon, Gaza, Syria, and Yemen.
- Release of foreign nationals detained in Iranian prisons, whom France and other nations consider hostages.
“Iran must demonstrate its willingness to engage in negotiations and respond to the European proposal,” Macron stated, underscoring that the initiative represents a unified European approach.
