Greece is set to host a group stage of EuroBasket 2029, marking the tournament’s return after an absence of 34 years. The last EuroBasket games held in Greece took place in 1995. In 2029, the national team will compete at the OAKA Stadium in Athens.
The Hellenic Basketball Federation has shared a video titled: “EuroBasket Returns to Greece.”
This video features basketball legends such as Efthimis Rentzias, Nikos Zisis, Kostas Tsartsaris, Nikos Galis, Dimitris Diamantidis, Vassilis Spanoulis, and Giannis Antetokounmpo discussing Greece’s hosting, along with visuals of Athens and the newly renovated OAKA.
Nikos Galis remarked:
“The entire nation feels a sense of pride when Greece hosts significant events. This will be particularly special for both athletes and fans.”
Dimitris Diamantidis added:
“Today, the national team is receiving the recognition it truly deserves.”
Vassilis Spanoulis expressed:
“Competing for Greece, in Greece, creates the best feelings for us. That’s exactly what the players of 2029 will aspire to.”
Lastly, NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo shared his thoughts:
“It’s a tremendous opportunity—for me, for my country, for my team. I wasn’t born in ’87 and was just a child in ’95 and ’98. 2029 will be our time. See you there.”
