Energean has released a video showcasing the initial environmental sampling conducted in the Kavala Gulf as part of the COREu pilot research program. The initiative focuses on a substantial investment in CO2 storage in Prinos, led by its subsidiary, EnEarth.
This research was carried out aboard the “Filia” vessel from the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research in November, with a follow-up sampling taking place in March, both within the Kavala Gulf.
The aim of these samplings is to document the natural levels of carbon dioxide in the Kavala Gulf and the factors influencing them. This will establish a baseline for environmental monitoring as the project prepares for operation in 2027 and beyond.
Pilot Program COREu: First Sampling in the Kavala Gulf
The CO2 storage initiative in Prinos, along with the COREu pilot program, aligns with the European Union’s climate policy, aiding industries in their efforts to reduce CO2 emissions. This strategy seeks to decrease associated costs while facilitating a shift toward a more sustainable future.
Managed by the independent organization SINTEF, the COREu program involves around 40 partners, including universities, research institutions, regulatory authorities, and businesses across Europe.
