The European Commission has initiated investigations to safeguard minors from pornographic content in line with the Digital Services Act (DSA). Formal proceedings have begun against platforms such as Pornhub, Stripchat, XNXX, and XVideos, which are suspected of violating the DSA.
The focus of these investigations is on the risks to minors, particularly due to ineffective age verification processes. Preliminary findings suggest that these platforms are not adhering to regulations and are inadequately protecting minors from accessing their content.
Simultaneously, member states of the European Digital Services Board are collaborating on actions against smaller pornography platforms.
These efforts are part of the Commission’s larger initiative to shield minors from harmful online content, particularly addressing the lack of effective age verification systems.
Smaller platforms are monitored by the national Digital Services Coordinators in the EU member state where they operate.
