A special gathering took place with Attica’s regional governor, Nikos Chardalias, who made a quick trip to China for the ITB international tourism exhibition in Shanghai.
During his visit, Mr. Chardalias engaged in a personal conversation with 13 students from the Department of Greek Studies at the University of Shanghai.
Many of these students had recently traveled to Athens as part of an educational initiative established by the Attica Region, which hosts Greek-speaking students and schoolchildren from across the globe. While there, they had the opportunity to meet with the Regional Governor in his office at the Administrative Building, where he promised to reconnect with them in their home country. “I am delighted to fulfill my promise and meet you again at your school,” said Nikos Chardalias, expressing his emotions and describing the students as “the most deserving, the strongest ambassadors for the enduring friendship between our two nations.”
A common tradition among Greek-speaking students is adopting Greek names, which they used while introducing themselves to the Regional Governor and the Greek delegation. Students named Athena, Odysseus, Helen, Hermes, and Persephone expressed their gratitude to the Regional Governor for the opportunity to immerse themselves in Greek culture, which they had studied in school and were now experiencing firsthand.
