The Spanish tennis player suffered from an adductor injury in his right leg during the final of the Barcelona Open, which he lost to Holger Rune. He attempted to compete in Madrid, which begins this week.
However, he announced on Thursday that he will not be participating.
“During the final in Barcelona, I experienced pain in my right adductor and also felt some discomfort in my left hip. On Tuesday, I underwent examinations, and after discussions with my team and doctors, we assessed whether I could train and compete without taking significant risks. I did everything possible to be ready; I was really looking forward to this tournament all year. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out,” Alcaraz shared regarding his injury.
It seems unlikely that he will be ready for the Rome Open that follows, but he plans to compete at Roland Garros from May 25 to June 8.
“On Monday, I’ll undergo further examinations to monitor my progress. Afterward, we’ll evaluate the next steps based on how I feel. In a few weeks, I expect to start gradually returning to training. I don’t want to make any assumptions. We are optimistic about Roland Garros, but we’ll see how things unfold for Rome,” he added.
