It occurred around 6 p.m. local time (8 p.m. in Greece), according to police authorities, who did not provide information on any injuries or the condition of the victims.
An eyewitness recounted to Sky News the terrifying moments:
“We heard loud screams. People sounded frantic. When we looked out the window, we saw the car had run over individuals. Then they began chasing the driver, attempting to reach the vehicle. The police worked hard to control the crowd and clear the area.”
A man has been arrested, as reported by early sources from the British city.
The images from Liverpool are “terrifying,” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer remarked, expressing gratitude to emergency services for their prompt response.
“My thoughts are with all those injured or affected. I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking event. I am being kept informed on developments and urge that we allow the police the space they need to…” he added.
According to initial reports, one man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
