According to reports from employees of the Municipality of Athens, an incident occurred on Niovis Street in Kypseli. While a worker was attempting to remove a bin from a garbage truck, he requested that a car that was “stuck” behind it maintain a few meters’ distance, as he could not maneuver the bin.
In response, a young man exited the vehicle and began to verbally assault the worker. Although the worker managed to evade him initially, the assailant later attacked him. Subsequently, several men emerged from the car, assaulting him with kicks and punches to the head.
Local residents immediately called for assistance, but the attackers fled the scene.
The worker was taken to Genimata Hospital for evaluation, underwent testing, and was released the following morning. Meanwhile, the management has begun legal proceedings against the offenders and continues to support the employee.
This incident underscores the challenging and often hazardous conditions faced by employees in the cleaning sector of the Municipality of Athens. In addition to tough working environments, they frequently encounter unacceptable behavior and violence, exacerbating the difficulties of their jobs.
This event follows a recent serious incident in which a green worker for the Municipality of Athens was attacked with a knife by a drug addict while on duty.
