Reports indicate that the National Security Council (KYSEA) has decided to position Hellenic Navy frigates to the south of Crete.
The Navy’s involvement is anticipated to act as a strong deterrent against human traffickers, who continue to operate despite the ongoing efforts of the Hellenic Coast Guard.
Enhancing Greece’s military presence in Libya is expected to provide support while complementing the work of the Coast Guard, which is actively conducting daily missions in the region.
Notably, the frigate HS Themistocles, currently engaged in the European operation “Irini,” is also active in the surrounding area.
