As of early Sunday afternoon (June 22), three fires are raging in Chios.
In response, extensive fire brigade teams have been deployed to the island and continue to receive reinforcements. However, the intense winds in the area are complicating their efforts.
The strong gusts from the northeastern part of the island are significantly affecting conditions.
Additionally, meteorologist Thodoros Kolydas shared a post highlighting that smoke from the Chios fires has already reached the central Cyclades, along with a corresponding map.
According to the fire service, there have been 45 agroforestry fires reported in the last 24 hours. Of these, 34 were promptly contained at their onset, while firefighters are still managing 11 other ongoing incidents.
Fire in Rhodes
A fire ignited on Sunday afternoon (June 22) in an agroforestry region near Theologos, Rhodes as well.
To combat the blaze, 33 firefighters are on the scene with 8 vehicles, supported by 2 hiking teams from the 11th EMODE and 3 aircraft. Water trucks from local authorities are also assisting.
According to rodiaki.gr, the fire began in a ravine, resuming from the location where it had previously been contained.
