Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Turkey’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, has sparked controversy by vacationing on a luxury yacht in Greece. This revelation has drawn widespread criticism in Turkey.
Images released by a news outlet depict Ersoy aboard a superyacht moored at Zeus Marina.
This yacht, reportedly owned by a tourism company, features amenities such as a jacuzzi, swimming pool, and powerful engines capable of reaching speeds of 34 knots, with rental costs reaching up to 120,000 euros per week.
While the minister claims he was on the yacht for an interview with columnist Ahmed Hakan (who appears on the right of the photo, with Ersoy on the left), many critics argue that the trip resembles more of a vacation than a professional obligation.
According to Turkish Minute, Ersoy’s trip has incited anger, particularly as the Turkish tourism sector struggles.
Even notable figures within the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) have voiced their concerns. A veteran AKP official remarked, “In light of the war on our borders, the ongoing tragedy in Gaza, our struggling tourism industry, and the rising cost of living, it’s unsettling to see ministers enjoying luxury vacations on Greek islands.”
