During the night, Russia launched over 440 drones and 32 missiles targeting Ukraine, an assault that President Volodymyr Zelensky called “one of the most horrific attacks” since the conflict began. Ukrainian officials reported that at least 14 civilians were killed in Kyiv as a result of these strikes.
“We are in contact with all partners at every level to ensure an appropriate response. The terrorists must feel the consequences, not innocent and peaceful civilians,” Zelensky stated on X, where he also shared a video showcasing the aftermath of the bombardment.
Earlier, Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, confirmed that the capital was specifically hit by 175 Russian drones, 14 cruise missiles, and two ballistic missiles.
Andriy Yermak, Zelensky’s chief of staff, criticized the international community for what he called an inadequate response to Russia’s ongoing aggression.
“A nuclear-armed state can systematically kill civilians in residential areas, dismiss calls for a ceasefire, and not face a sufficient reaction from the civilized world. How many more civilians and children must perish before this changes?” Yermak questioned on Telegram.
Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha noted that the deadly assault on Kyiv coinciding with the G7 Summit was a deliberate act of defiance towards the United States and other leaders advocating for an end to the war.
“Putin’s goal is clear: to depict the G7 leaders as weak. Only strong, decisive actions and true pressure on Moscow can challenge that narrative,” Sybiha emphasized in a post on X.
