During his official visit to Doha, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, Mr. Tasos Hatzivasileiou, remarked, “Qatar and Greece enjoy a long-standing relationship rooted in mutual respect, commitment to international law, and a shared dedication to progress, peace, and regional stability.” He was joined by Ms. Stelina Siarapi, Secretary General for Private Investments at the Ministry of Development, as part of the inaugural session of the Greece-Qatar Joint Interministerial Committee for Economic and Technical Cooperation.

Co-chairing the committee with Qatar’s Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed, Mr. Hatzivasileiou underscored the strategic significance of collaboration between the two countries. He opened by conveying greetings from both the Greek Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, discussing Greece’s economic advancements, the reforms enhancing growth prospects, and various investment opportunities in the country. He highlighted key components of the government’s investment strategy, including the activities of Enterprise Greece, the Hellenic Corporation of Assets and Participations (HCAP), and the recent Development Law.
Greece as an Attractive Investment Destination
Emphasizing Greece’s appeal as an investment destination across multiple sectors—logistics, transportation, real estate, tourism, agriculture, energy, and pharmaceuticals—Mr. Hatzivasileiou outlined the investment opportunities present within the Greek economy.
He noted that over 100 Greek companies are already active in Qatar, particularly in construction, shipping, and logistics, and highlighted Greece’s geostrategic role as a pillar of stability and a gateway to the Balkans, Eastern Mediterranean, and the Black Sea.
He also encouraged the Qatari representatives to arrange an official business mission to Greece, involving the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), with the goal of hosting a high-level bilateral investment forum in Athens to foster direct networking and collaboration with Greek enterprises.


New Bilateral Agreement Signed
Additionally, both Deputy Ministers signed the Protocol of the 1st Joint Interministerial Committee meeting, which outlines cooperation across various sectors, including trade, exports, investments, agriculture, environment, transportation, telecommunications, tourism, and more.
Throughout his visit, Mr. Hatzivasileiou engaged in bilateral discussions with Minister of Communities Mr. Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiya and Deputy Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Ms. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misnad, focusing on enhancing investment flows and interstate cooperation, particularly on strategically significant projects.
Meetings with the Greek Community in Doha
Mr. Hatzivasileiou also met with His Eminence Archbishop Aristovoulos of Qatar, representatives of the Greek community, and Greek entrepreneurs based in Doha.
