Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot announced that four French activists, including Rima Hassan, a member of the European Parliament representing France’s League for a Free France (LFI), will be deported from Israel tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday.
In a post on Wednesday, Barrot expressed gratitude for the efforts of representatives that led to this quick resolution, despite facing harassment and defamation.
The LFI has criticized the French government for its lack of action following the Israeli army’s seizure of a sailboat heading to the Gaza Strip on Monday.
However, shortly before Barrot’s announcement, Adalah, an Israeli human rights organization that supports detained pro-Palestinian activists, reported that two of the detainees, including Hassan, are currently in solitary confinement.
According to Adalah, “Israeli authorities have transferred Brazilian Tiago Avila and French-Palestinian MEP Rima Hassan to separate prisons and placed them in solitary confinement.”
Israel’s Prison Service, when contacted by Agence France-Presse, directed inquiries to the Foreign Ministry, which stated it was in the process of “verifying the information.”
