A nursing assistant mistakenly administered a blood transfusion to a 62-year-old patient who is fighting for her life in the ICU at Gazanios Hospital. The patient’s family was informed about the incident yesterday.
Dimitris Sideris, the president of the hospital staff, indicated that the nursing assistant is expected to appear before the authorities soon.
The family of the 62-year-old woman, who is experiencing multi-organ failure due to the erroneous transfusion, has initiated legal proceedings against the nursing assistant.
Sideris remarked on the situation, stating, “This is a troubling time, but it’s important that patients maintain their trust in hospital staff and the NHS.” He described the nursing assistant as a 30-year-old who excels at his work and reported the incident directly to the Director before leaving the scene.
Meanwhile, Michalis Giannakos, president of PODEN, mentioned that according to colleagues he spoke with, the woman’s condition is improving and her health appears to be stabilizing.
