Spyros Protopsaltis elected new President of the European Network of Public Employment Services (PES Network)

Spyros Protopsaltis Appointed as the New President of the European Network of Public Employment Services (PES Network)

At the 23rd Board of Directors meeting of the PES Network, which took place on June 5 and 6, 2025, in Warsaw, Spyros Protopsaltis, Governor of the Greek Public Employment Service (DYPA), was elected as the President of the Network.

This is a historic moment, as it is the first time a Greek individual has held the presidency of the PES Network—a significant honor for both DYPA and Greece.

The PES Network is an institutional framework for collaboration among public employment services across EU Member States, the European Commission, and EEA countries (Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein). The Network comprises a total of 31 members: the 27 EU Member States, 3 EEA countries, and the European Commission.

Established in 2014 by a decision of the European Parliament and Council, the PES Network aims to enhance the efficiency of public employment services. It serves as a platform for cooperation and the sharing of best practices, fostering employment and improving services for citizens and employers. Key objectives include the ongoing enhancement of services, mutual learning through knowledge exchange, and contributing to the European Employment Strategy. The European Commission provides support for the Network.

Mr. Protopsaltis’ election recognizes Greece’s remarkable achievement in decreasing unemployment by 54% over the past five years—the largest reduction in Europe—as well as the significant transformation of DYPA and Greece’s proactive role in shaping European labor market policy.
