Naftemporiki Partners with the University of West Attica Through Memorandum of Cooperation
The signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Cooperation between Naftemporiki and the University of West Attica took place at the Naftemporiki headquarters in Piraeus. The agreement was signed by Professor Panagiotis Kaldis, the rector of the university, and George Melissanidis, the publisher of Naftemporiki.
Melissanidis noted that the full range of media resources available through the journalistic organization—including the newspaper, website, and TV channel—will be accessible to university faculty and students. This partnership aims to create an open platform for sharing the university’s significant scientific contributions.
Kaldis briefly outlined the university’s history and highlighted the key research areas of its faculties, particularly emphasizing the Department of Accounting and Finance, which will engage directly with Naftemporiki.
Among those present from the university were Alina Hyz, president of the Department of Accounting and Finance, who indicated that this is the department’s inaugural Memorandum, yet considers it highly significant. Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, and Lifelong Learning, Petros Kalantonis, expressed optimism regarding Naftemporiki’s role in enhancing the visibility of students’ work in international competitions. Additionally, Dimitris Charamis, an assistant professor, pointed out that both the university and Naftemporiki aim to be vital resources for the Accounting and Finance sector.
The Pulse of the Market
The ceremony also included remarks from Platon Tsoulos, the newspaper’s director, who emphasized the significance of fostering investigative journalism in Greece. Michalis Psilos, the website director, discussed the advantages of Naftemporiki journalists participating in university seminars to convey market insights to students. Chief Financial Officer Athanasios Konstantakis highlighted prospects for exchanging expertise and resources between the two organizations. Management Consultant Christina Hafousidou noted the wealth of historical material expected from the digitization of Naftemporiki’s 100-year archive, which will serve as a valuable resource for students and scholars. Also in attendance was Christos Kechris, the CEO of Aegean Shipping, who recognized opportunities for collaboration between Naftemporiki and the first “green” university, West Attica University.
As a symbolic gesture, the publisher presented the rector with a volume titled “100 Years of Economic History” by Naftemporiki, featuring contributions from five distinguished academics, commemorating the newspaper’s centenary (1924-2024).
All suggestions made during the ceremony will be documented, and a follow-up meeting will be scheduled in the near future as part of this collaboration.
