During his address to the UN Security Council, Palestinian Ambassador to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, made an urgent plea to halt the genocide against Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip.
As he described the heartbreaking images of “mothers cradling their lifeless children, caressing their hair, and apologizing to them,” Mansour was overcome with emotion. He told the chairman, “I have grandchildren too. I understand their significance to their families, and witnessing the plight of the Palestinians without the heart to act is unbearable for any compassionate human being.”
With frustration, Mansour criticized the UN Security Council’s “inaction,” questioning, “How many more must suffer?” He highlighted that Palestinians have been deprived of essential resources like water, food, and medicine, living in dire conditions.
Mansour accused Israel of creating a façade of allowing aid into Gaza while asserting that “life there is untenable.” He stated, “If Israel genuinely wanted aid to enter, it would open the crossings and permit the immediate and complete entry of humanitarian assistance in collaboration with the UN, including UNRWA (the UN agency for Palestinian refugees).”
He further claimed, “Israel’s true intention is to obliterate the Palestinian people through violence, starvation, and destruction, forcing them to leave to survive.”
“I assure you, we are more deeply rooted in Palestine than the olive trees, those ancient Roman olives. We will never leave. We will not fade away. We will remain in our homeland. Please, take action. Stop this atrocity against the Palestinian people; this genocide must end,” Mansour concluded.
