Konstantinos Koronakis, President of the Manufacturing Department at the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and CEO of KORONAKIS SA, spoke at the 9th Shipping Conference organized by “Naftemporiki”.
When asked if the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry has embraced the “new century” and is actively working to attract investments, Koronakis stated, “The Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with two other organizations, helped establish the maritime cluster, Maritime Hellas.”
“Approximately 383 companies have achieved successful outcomes over the years, despite the lack of significant ship repair capacity in our country. This has posed a double challenge for us, as we not only needed to create something in Greece but also had to export it to countries with established ship repair facilities that were initially resistant,” he added.
Support for Greece
“We believed that – and I’m speaking on behalf of the Hellenic Shipbuilding and Repair Association and the companies aligned with it – we are committed to starting in Greece and supporting Greece,” Koronakis remarked. He expressed optimism about recent developments, noting, “Thanks to the efforts of the Hellenic Shipbuilding and Repair Association, two major shipbuilding and repair bases have emerged,” he added.
“This progress will facilitate our operations and foster innovation,” he emphasized.
“We have always had the support of shipowners, who have trusted us. Now, with the collaboration of the shipbuilding and repair industry, this synergy has become significantly more effective,” Koronakis concluded.
