The United States has labeled the United Nations’ critique of humanitarian aid distribution—initiated by a newly established foundation backed by the US and Israel—as “hypocrisy.”
State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce expressed her disappointment, stating, “It’s unfortunate that the focus has shifted from delivering aid to Gaza to protests about the nature of those providing it.”
She noted that these criticisms are “full of hypocrisy.”
Yesterday afternoon, thousands of Palestinians surged into a newly opened aid storage and distribution center in southern Gaza.
This turmoil coincided with Israel’s recent escalation of military operations in Gaza, where vast destruction has left the population at risk of starvation after 19 months of conflict. The establishment of a new aid distribution system has sparked strong reactions from the global community.
Bruce asserted, “What’s important is that aid and food are being delivered to Gaza in significant quantities.”
She emphasized the complexity of the situation, asserting that the foundation operates “in accordance with the humanitarian principles of independence and impartiality.”
However, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) faces international criticism for allegedly advancing Israeli military goals in Gaza, circumventing the UN, and excluding Palestinian involvement.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged that there was a “momentary loss of control” at the aid storage facility, following reports that Israeli forces opened fire “in a warning manner” outside the perimeter.
