On Tuesday, May 13th, at the 2025 American Music Awards in Las Vegas, broadcast live on CBS and Paramount+, Janet Jackson captivated the audience as she was honored with the prestigious “Icon” award. The event was hosted by actress Tasha Smith.
During her acceptance speech, Jackson expressed her love and gratitude, stating, “I love you all so much. I am incredibly thankful. While I don’t see myself as a legend, I was raised with certain values.” She reflected on her upbringing, saying, “My family’s dream was never about fame. We had a deep passion for music, dance, and singing, and achieving fame was a result of hard work and dedication. My story, like my family’s, is truly an American tale—this could only happen in America.”

She also touched on the theme of inspiration, hoping to have encouraged young artists: “I aspire to be a source of inspiration for others to chase their dreams and find success.” After thanking her team and fans, she concluded with heartfelt words: “Thanks to you and to God, I stand here today. I’m truly grateful to the AMAs for this honor. Remember to keep God in every part of your life, as He wishes to be there. I love you all so much.”
The Grammy-winning star then delighted the audience by performing “Someone to Call My Lover” from 2001. Her show reached a high with “All for You,” featuring an upbeat dance segment and an amazing guitar solo.

The “Icon” award is given to artists recognized for their “indisputable cultural and global impact within the music industry.” Previous honorees include Rihanna (2013) and Lionel Richie (2022). Janet’s performance marked her first live televised appearance since 2018. She is set to return to Resorts World for her new residency, “JANET JACKSON: LAS VEGAS,” with six shows scheduled from May 21 to 31.
