The management of Olympiacos is making significant strides in preparing for a cutting-edge Karaiskakis Stadium as the Champions League group stage approaches. The planned investments total several million euros, primarily focused on expanding the stadium’s capacity to 50,000 seats or more.
For the upcoming season, Olympiacos has achieved record sales of season tickets. With the renovations and upgrades in view, the club aims to host Champions League matches at the newly enhanced Karaiskakis.
It’s noteworthy that season tickets for the new sports year were sold out by early May, despite immense demand. The club made every effort to accommodate as many fans as possible; however, certain limitations remain due to the specific requirements of participating in the Champions League.
As for the timeline regarding the necessary upgrades, construction is expected to commence in 2026-2027. During this period, Olympiacos will temporarily relocate to OAKA stadium, considered a practical solution while the new Karaiskakis is under construction.
Until the new stadium is completed, the team will host its home matches at OAKA. This arrangement will coincide with the club’s centennial celebrations this year, highlighted by Olympiacos’ triumph in the Greek Cup with a 2-0 win over OFI, achieving the domestic double.
Historically, the team transitioned from OAKA to Rizoupoli Stadium in the 2002-03 season, spending two years there. The last time Olympiacos played at OAKA was during the 2001-2002 season, with their most recent European match there ending in a 1-1 draw against Deportivo La Coruña on October 31, 2001.
