A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with the violent assault of a 50-year-old man in Glyka Nera on Monday night, as reported by local authorities.
The victim was reportedly attacked with such brutality—including being struck with a scooter—that he sustained severe injuries and was admitted to the ICU at Evangelismos Hospital, where he is currently intubated.
Sources indicate that the teenager’s parents allege that two days prior to the incident, the 50-year-old threatened the minor’s sister with a knife, which may have motivated the assault.
Preliminary findings from the coroner suggest that some of the victim’s injuries could have been exacerbated by a fall following the attack, which involved the minor and potentially other individuals.
The 17-year-old now faces attempted murder charges.
The incident occurred outside an elementary school in Glyka Nera. Witnesses stated that the victim has a history of mental health issues and has been institutionalized in the past due to psychological problems.
Local residents reported overhearing the assailants taunting the 50-year-old, saying, “Stay right there like that, die.”
