A weather system named INES, as designated by the Italian Meteorological Service, is moving northeast from the coast of Tunisia. It’s expected to affect our country’s weather starting tonight, Thursday (15-5-2025), and continuing into the early hours of Saturday (17-5-2025). Expect heavy rain and thunderstorms in western, central, and northern Greece, along with very strong winds in the eastern and southern regions.

A. Heavy rain and thunderstorms
1. From Thursday night (15-05-25) into Friday (16-05-25) in Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Ithaca, northwestern Peloponnese, western and central Sterea, and Thessaly.
2. On Friday (16-05-25), from midday until evening, in the northern Ionian Sea (Corfu, Diapontia Islands, Paxos, Lefkada), Epirus, western Central Greece, and western and central Macedonia.
3. From Friday afternoon (16-05-25) until Saturday morning (17-05-25) in eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the northeastern Aegean (Lemnos area).
B. Locally gusty southeast winds (8 to gusts of 9 Beaufort) will occur on Friday (16-05-25) in the Aegean Sea and Crete, as well as until noon in the southern Ionian Sea and the southern Peloponnese.
C. Current meteorological conditions are conducive to the transport of African dust to the southern part of the country, particularly affecting Crete, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, and southern Peloponnese.
