A 39-year-old woman has tragically lost her life following an explosion from an improvised explosive device in Thessaloniki, near the National Bank at the intersection of Agiou Dimitriou and Platonos streets. Anti-terrorism units quickly arrived at the scene.
The incident took place just after 5 a.m. outside a closed parking area adjacent to an apartment building, where the bank is located on the ground floor. The explosion resulted in severe injuries to the woman, who was present at the time, leading to amputations. First responders attempted CPR, and she was intubated on-site before being transported to Ippokrateio Hospital, where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
Reports indicate that the deceased was previously known to law enforcement, having been involved in various criminal activities. Authorities are investigating potential links to organized crime, as she had faced charges related to robberies, loan sharking, and firearms offenses.
